Dynamic Contact Angle

Dynamic contact angles typically mean advancing and receding contact angles or contact angle changes along time. The dynamic contact angles can be measured conveniently using camera-based contact angle meters. An alternative to the optical image based method is the Wilhelmy balance method available on a surface tensiometer. Instead of using high-speed cameras, a surface tensiometer relies on a high-resolution electronic balance to measure the force acting on the sample over time when the sample is being introduced into or pulling away from a liquid. Given the perimeter of the sample, the contact angle as a function of time and advancing or receding angle can be determined.

Typical Experimental Results:

Dynamic Contact Angles of a Polypropylene plate

Advancing Angle(deg)
Receding Angle(deg)
90.54 64.32
